“Santa is a fun story. Jesus is real.”

December 18, 2017

  1. Jana McDonald says:

You have accurately captured all my thoughts and feelings with your words. I always let our boys (now 27 and 23) believe in the fantasy of Santa, because it was fun to imagine and pretend. They also always knew it was only pretend and that Jesus was the reason for season. We always made Jesus a cake (monkey bread usually) and we always read the Christmas story before any gifts were opened. The Christmas season was also a time of special giving to adopted families and working at the food kitchen and such. We wanted them to learn to help those who needed extra help. We did what we thought was right, we certainly meant no disrespect to the Lord in allowing the fantasy of Santa to co-exist! I hope my grown children don’t think we lied to them or harmed them by letting the fantasy live. You are so right about why we want our kids to believe in St Nick, it is all about our childhood memories and breathing life into them as long as we can. We don’t want to grow up! Bless you for always being a godly example who is totally real and transparent.

    • Jana, thanks for sharing your story. Andrew’s love for the Lord is obvious, equally matched by his desire to proclaim truth while sharing his love with others. You’ve done a wonderful job raising your boys! Thanks too for your words of encouragement; bless the Lord. Merry Christmas!
