Recently I was given a great opportunity to become a regular contributor on WholeLifestyleNutrition.com and this week I had the privilege of writing a blog post on using natural, unrefined sugars in desserts and snacks (includes a delicious recipe for Cinnamon Apple, Pear, and Almond Crumble).
Sugar is such a prevalent part of our food culture today. It’s easy to become overwhelmed when trying to avoid sugar in your diet, as you begin to see just how much sugar is in the foods we eat every single day. Not only that, but the majority of these sugars are highly processed fake “foods” that can cause real harm to our bodies.

Instead of denying ourselves the pleasure of an occasional (or even every day) sweet treat, we’ve decided instead to celebrate real, natural, unrefined sugars. These include things such as honey, raw turbinado sugar, real maple syrup, and fresh fruits, to name a few.
You can read more about the sugars we enjoy on my recent blog post: How Sweet it is to Eat Real Food
or in my blog post featured this week on Whole Lifestyle Nutrition: Celebrating Natural Sugars – Organic Apple, Pear, and Almond Crumble {aka Crisp} Recipe
Throughout the month of May, Whole Lifestyle Nutrition is featuring great recipes for desserts and snacks made with natural, unrefined ingredients. Inspired by this theme, watch for my next blog post here on From Famine to Foodie including a recipe for my all-time favorite muffins: Whole Wheat Lemon Poppy Seed Berry Muffins. Stay tuned on Monday for this post– well, unless this baby decides to finally make his debut and we’re in the hospital!
