Letting Your Child Go When You’d Really Rather They Stay

August 13, 2015

Thanks, Sweetie, for the memories of when we were ‘letting you go’ to Africa. After your diagnosis just two months before your trip I remember praying a prayer similar to ‘laying out a fleece’. I told myself that if you raised all of your support, that would be more than enough proof that God still wanted you in Africa that summer despite the new complication and that I would not worry during your adventure. I remember you were $40 short of the total. I can’t recall the exact amount you need, but I am pretty sure you had raised about $2000 and I told myself that I was completely satisfied that God had fulfilled my request. Then as we were backing out of the driveway to take you Florida to meet your team, dear friends that lived in the same town pulled up in their car. They handed you an envelope and said they wanted to add a contribution to your trip. You opened the envelope and it was…. $40!
