I Began This For My Family, We Press On To Inspire More Families
“The dinner table is a place in which children come for consistency. They are reassured by it, met by parents who anticipate their arrival, and meet them where they are at. The dinner table is a safeguard against a private life apart from parents, against loneliness, against unhealthy eating habits, against busyness, and against eating disorders. The dinner table creates an oasis, a place where a child comes and embarks on culture; a meal made by hands that love them, prayer which protects them, and conversation which inspires them. Family is an incredible thing, one we often don’t realize. It is unique. It is consecrated, a gift from God, with which in turn we glorify God. It is an avenue by which we grow. It is a refuge in which we restore. God gave it. Let us preserve it, nourish it, and cherish it– our family.”
I wrote this in April of 2012, early in our venture into eating real, whole foods. When I began this blog I had no idea where it would take us; no idea of the opportunities it would open for us to inspire more families with the great things God was doing in our health and family. My hope was simply that writing out our story would take us to greater depths in eating wholesome foods; that it would be a sort of driving force to keep us on this journey. It has been that and so much more. I am humbled to see God using our story.
Our purpose for this blog is to inspire and help families to embrace a whole food diet, so that they can live life more abundantly and serve the Lord to a greater capacity.
“Into a Whole Food Kitchen – Real Stories of Real Families Eating Real Food”
This is why I am very excited to announce a series of posts I will be publishing throughout September entitled “Into a Whole Food Kitchen – Real Stories of Real Families Eating Real Food”.
This month I’ve had the privilege of stepping into the kitchens of three whole food families; families who have decided that today’s convenience and processed food culture just won’t cut it for the health of their families. Instead, they are reaching for the nourishing and tasty whole foods that God intended for us to eat and thrive on. These families have decided that their family’s health is worth the effort, energy, and cost of eating real food.
I’ve been humbled, inspired, and challenged by each of these families, and I can’t wait to share their stories with you! I’m confident that their transparency and passion will embolden and inspire more families to eat real food, and that their experiences will shed some light on practical ways for families to make real food more manageable in any home.
So stay tuned throughout September as we step into the kitchen of three families:
The Gruetzmacher Family: Just starting out on this journey, they are ditching processed foods for the real stuff to better their health and the health of their three young boys!
The Olson Family: Facing the challenges of a chronic illness vastly effected by diet, they are fighting Crohns disease by exploring various whole food methods to alleviate symptoms and better the health of their family!
The Marshall Family: On this whole food venture now for 7 years, they’re enjoying the never-ending process of learning and discovering new ways to grow, prepare, and enjoy real foods in their home, and involving their four young children in the process and fun of it all!
I promise that you’ll be inspired by their stories, each coming from different culinary backgrounds, diets, and upbringings; but each with a shared goal of feeding their families delicious, nourishing foods. They’re doing what it takes to pass down to their children an understanding of what good, real, whole foods are, and how to prepare them. These families are creating a legacy of real food for generations to come, and it all begins at their kitchen tables.
Raising kids stirs something deep in our souls — an innate knowing that our time is finite.
