What Is the Sun?
The sun is the star God placed at the center of our solar system. Earth and the other planets orbit around it, and every sunrise reminds us of God’s care in creating day and night. The sun gives us light, warmth, and the energy plants need to grow.
How Hot Is the Sun?
So, how hot is the sun? Its surface is about 11,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which is about 6,000 degrees Celsius. To picture that, think of boiling water. Water boils at just 212 degrees Fahrenheit, and even that is far too hot to touch. The sun’s surface is many times hotter than boiling water, hotter than anything we could ever stand near.
But the surface is not the hottest part. The sun has an outer layer called the corona that extends far into space. The corona can reach around 3.6 million degrees Fahrenheit. At times, parts of the sun flare even hotter. These numbers help us understand the power of the star God created to sustain life on Earth.
Why Earth Doesn’t Burn Up
If the sun is that hot, why don’t we burn up? God placed Earth at the perfect distance away, about 93 million miles. At this distance, sunlight spreads out enough for us to enjoy warmth without being harmed. This safe place is often called the habitable zone, or the Goldilocks zone, because it is neither too hot nor too cold.
God’s Wisdom in the Sun’s Design
When we ask how hot the sun is, we learn about the sun’s immense heat, but we also see God’s wisdom. He created a powerful star, set Earth in just the right place, and gave us a world full of life. Every warm sunbeam is a reminder of His care.
