What does the Bible say about taking care of creation? The Bible gives us a clear mandate to care for creation. This responsibility, often called the Creation Mandate, is sometimes misused to justify oppressive domination over the earth. However, this is not God’s nature. When He calls us to rule over something, it is meant to be a good and nurturing rule.

For example, if we are entrusted with finances, we are not meant to squander them but to steward them wisely so they flourish. The same applies to creation. Proverbs 12:10 says, “The righteous care for the needs of their animals…” This verse reflects God’s heart for how we treat the animals under our care.

While some animals, like farm animals, are in human service, most are wild. Yet God provides for them all.

What Does Psalm 104 Say About God’s Wild and Domestic Creatures?

Psalm 104 describes how God provides for all of His creation. It speaks of how He cares for both cultivated and wild animals:

How Can We Help Take Care of God’s Creation?

Taking care of creation starts with what is already in our hands. Many people want to do something grand for animal welfare, but it begins with small, faithful steps. If you own a pet, you can learn about its needs, provide proper care, and keep it clean. If you take care of one animal well, God may entrust you with more.

Caring for all creatures is a big task. Stewarding a whole area requires understanding the ecology and the specific needs of that environment. The larger the responsibility, the more we need to learn. The Parable of the Talents reminds us that if we are faithful in little, we will be entrusted with more. By studying God’s creation and being responsible with what He has given us, we can fulfill the biblical call to care for the world He made.

So, what does the Bible say about taking care of creation? It teaches that our role is not to dominate recklessly but to steward well. Whether through caring for animals, tending to the land, or learning more about God’s design, we can honor Him by treating creation with respect and wisdom.

Here are some ways to take care of creation:

• Hang bird feeders and birdhouses in your yard.
• Remove and throw away old fishing line from trees or bushes along ponds, lakes, and rivers. This protects birds from using it for nest building material and getting tangled.
• Plant flowers that provide nectar for pollinating insects. Research which plants are local to your area and create a pollinator garden.
• Start a compost pile in your yard to recycle natural materials into healthy soil.
• Clean up trash from natural areas.
