We began eating real food shortly after the birth of our first son. He turned our world upside down. With his arrival came a whole new realm of things to consider. How will we raise this tiny being? We began looking at our lives with much more scrutiny. One of the areas we looked at was our diet. We learned. We grew. We changed.
This is why I invest so much thought, time, energy, and a good portion of our budget into feeding my family well. It’s my job to nourish their bodies.
Nourishing Their Spirits
Nutrition is a passion of mine, as well as a conviction; a conviction that it is my responsibility to gain knowledge about how foods help or harm us, and use that knowledge to take care of my family. With all the focus I pour into caring for my boys’ bodies, I need to ask myself often, how much am I focusing on caring for their spirits?
And so this morning I took some time to pray for them, and God just kept pouring Scripture into my heart to pray for these two little boys.
A Prayer For My Boys (Praying Scripture For Our Children)
“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Strengthen them with power in their innermost beings. Dwell in them. Through faith, always childlike, may Christ dwell in their hearts. Rooted and grounded in love–that is our job; to root them from their very beginnings, always growing; deeper, stronger. Grounded and secure, never shifting or causing doubt.
Rooted and Grounded in love.
To know the love of Christ. To comprehend just how vast it is; how complete and all-consuming. Oh that we would root them and ground them in the very love of Christ. A love which surpasses all knowledge; far greater than anything known on earth. Being rooted and grounded in the very love of Christ, that they may be filled with all the fullness of God.
“To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you,”
You have created these boys for greatness. You will call them to a high work.
“I…urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience”
“And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us”
“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,”
I pray that they may stand firm through faith beyond the years of direct influence we have over them. May we be rooting and grounding them in Christ’s love during the years we do have by their sides, holding their hands, and guiding them to Jesus.
“…that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power…”
Place a great resolve for good deep within their hearts, one which will move them to action. May every work of theirs be a work of faith, relying upon Your great power in every area of their lives. Amen.
Pray for your children today. Pray scripture over them. Feed their bodies well. Feed their spirits well. Lead them to Jesus.
